Tangerang, May 13, 2025 — The daily commute from Tangerang to Jakarta continues to be a source of frustration for many. Heavy traffic congestion on this route significantly extends travel time and causes exhaustion among road users, especially during peak hours.
A commuter who travels every day from Tangerang to his office in the Pasar Baru area of Jakarta shared his experience. He said he usually leaves home at 6:30 a.m. and returns around 4:30 p.m.
“My route is from Jalan Raya Mauk, then to Daan Mogot, through Grogol and Harmoni, then into Jalan Gunung Sahari Raya. On a good day, it takes about one and a half hours. But if the traffic is really bad, it can take up to two and a half hours just to get to the office,” he said.
This long commute takes a toll not just on time, but also physically.
“My back hurts, my body feels sore, and sitting for that long is really tiring. I feel exhausted even before starting work,” he added with a small laugh.
He identified broken-down vehicles as one of the main causes of traffic jams. “Buses, trucks, or old public transport like metrominis often break down and block the road. Once that happens, traffic gets totally stuck. It happens quite often—sometimes twice or three times a week,” he explained.
He also offered a suggestion for both the government and the public. “If people don’t have anything urgent to do, maybe they could avoid going out during rush hours. That might help reduce the number of vehicles on the road. It would benefit everyone.”
Traffic congestion is a persistent problem in big cities like Jakarta. Hopefully, with voices from regular commuters like this, the government and the public can work together to find better solutions.
